Let Go (Kovalam – Kerala) is a self-portrait photograph (25.4 x 18.7 cm) on archival paper, depicting the artist reclined in a chair with eyes closed in quiet contemplation. The empty bed, with its checkered bedsheet, hints at absence and a shared past. Warm wooden panels frame the scene, conveying the tension between protection and confinement. The subject’s expression reflects a yearning for escape, where freedom emerges through surrender. In this instant, the image reveals the artist’s inner world, where enclosure and release converge in a moment of intense pleasure. This experience  further broadens the emotional complexities, evoking isolation, fatigue, and fleeting relief, while capturing the complexities of letting go.

Let Go (Kovalam – Kerala) is part of Baptist Coelho’s ongoing multimedia series, Kovalam – Kerala, which reflects on the artist’s emotional journey through an intimate narrative of a past relationship. The series resonates with the ideas of Gaston Bachelard (1884–1962), a French philosopher and phenomenologist, particularly his book ‘The Poetics of Space’ (1958), which explores how imagination, memory, and the intimacy of space create emotional resonance.
