Our instincts to bond with our loved ones, is one of our many basic needs. Soldiers, who find themselves isolated on the Siachen Glacier, are consumed by the loss of personal contact. “If only I could see my children…”, highlights this fundamental connection with family and how it becomes an enduring symbol of hope and sanity.
In his previous work, re(wind), 2006, the artist has used paper airplanes to speak about childhood and its trajectories. In this work, he revisits those ideas, with black paper airplanes scattered in the snow. The photograph has been developed from his previous artwork titled, “I think of my brother’s only one child named, Deepthi…”, 2009, which is a 2 channel video with objects.
