“I long to see some colour…”, consists of a Siachen soldier’s used rucksack, stacked with empty white photo frames. The unforgiving terrain of the Siachen Glacier distorts a soldier’s sense of being; it’s a place where he often hallucinates. The harsh impact of sub-zero temperatures is visible on the tattered state of the green bag.
The blinding white of the snow and the lack of oxygen, induced by high altitudes, takes a toll on the soldiers’ psyche. The blank photo frames symbolize the soldiers’ mindscape. This notion of emptiness surrounds the soldiers at every step, and those who seek a reprieve from it, can only but yearn for the true colours of everyday life.
